Hi! I’m Elyse,

A mental health advocate, author, & military spouse!

What does it mean to Hold Down the Fort? Have you ever heard the expression, “Hold your ground soldier!” Simply put, do whatever it takes to secure the ground you are fighting for. The ground in which you are willing to bleed and give your life for. To hold down the fort means you are willing to do anything to protect your household and your marriage at all and any cost.

The problem is that many of us in today’s society have lost sight of what to fight for…

When I first got married, some of the best advice that was given to me was, “choose your battles.” With divorce rates and mental health disease(s) on the rise, the enemy of our soul wants nothing more than to break apart marriages and destroy the family unit as a whole. Marriage takes work. Pouring into children takes work. Protecting our family from every outside voice takes work. We must be willing to invest in the legacy we are leaving, because it is worth it.

So, what does all of this look like? How do we fight and protect what is ours? How do we go about it in the right way? How do we focus on the right battles and choose accordingly?

I want this website to be a tool that you can put in your toolbox. I want these words that I write to challenge, inspire, build up, equip, and encourage you in whatever season of life you are currently walking in.

As a military spouse I know that this path will never be easy, but as a wife and mother one thing I have learned is that I am not capable to do this life on my own without the life giving and life sustaining power of Jesus Christ in my life. I need the Lord. Every. Single. Day. I’ve done life with Him, and without, and without is a much scarier place to be. You are not alone.

So how we fight our battles will determine several key factors. 1. The longevity of a marriage & keeping the family together. 2. Healthy coping methods and habits. 3. Establishing a strong and healthy foundation in the home; the ground on which we are building. 4. Setting the example for our children, so they can thrive in life. 5. Knowing when and how to set boundaries to ensure victory, not defeat. There is hope!

You are doing a good job! You were made to do hard things! It’s time though, to shift our focus and remember what we are fighting for.

I am a homeschool mum of three beautiful children! I’m a proud wife of a UH-60 Blackhawk pilot. I am a published author of Kindness is MY Superpower! I am far from perfect, but I would be honored if you decided to follow me on my journey. Comment, reach out, send prayer requests, I am here! May God be with you as you hold down the fort!
